For the first time in history the airplane was used in a war. The development brought new fighters and bombers. The airplanes were mostly used for reconnaissance and strafing. But in the air the famous aces fought breathtaking duels. The most famous German pilot was Baron Manfred Richthofen called The Red Baron. He was flying a Fokker D. VII and managed to shoot down 80 enemy planes. He was said to be invincible but was killed the 21. April 1918 by either the Canadian pilot A. R. Brown or by Australian infantry.

The pilots are able to gain experience if they survive a battle with more than 3 strikes. The first time they survive a battle they gain 1 <l:h_hit_prob> point. When they have survived two battles they are aces and have gained a total of 2 hit probability points making them able to hit with a probability of 5/10 in a rural district.
